New Beers in this week…

0 Comments/ in Uncategorized / by Captain Simcoe
November 25, 2016

The first three beers are all 750ml bottles, so they make perfect Christmas gifts for the Beer Lover in your life! The final beer, Love Among The Ruins, is no less special, but in a slightly smaller 335ml bottle.

‘MONOLITH’ 7.4% Burning Sky Brewery

“The quiet East Sussex village of Firle is home to Burning Sky brewery, which was set up by Mark Tranter in 2013 after leaving Dark Star, where he was head brewer. Tranter’s sours are influenced by Belgian saisons and lambics, which sleep the sleep of the just within massive casks that once held wine. Monolith is a dark beer, slightly reminiscent of stout or porter, but with added Brettanomyces yeast and lacto-bacillus, all of which lead the beer on a merry dance over the time it spends in a barrel. The result is a Janus-faced beer — it looks like a stout, but has an earthy, acidic note on the nose, while on the palate it’s bittersweet, delicately acidic, has hints of mocha before finishing with a tart and rich finish. Monolith is the right name for this monster.” – Adrian Tierney-Jones

‘SERPENT’ 9.5% Thornbridge Brewery / Brooklyn Brewery

Brooklyn Brewery and Thornbridge Brewery have been pals for many years.

“Serpent is the first beer of its kind, and one of the coolest things either brewery has ever done. We went to Oliver’s Cider in Hereford seeking their lees, the natural wild yeasts that ferment their apples into great traditional ciders. We brewed a robust Belgian-inspired golden ale at Thornbridge, added the lees in barrels, aged the beer for more than a year, and bottle conditioned it. Now Serpent emerges dry, tart, firm, fine and funky, a full expression of our friendship, great British brewing, American Boldness, and Herefordshire countryside.”

‘SHNOODLEPIP’ 6.5% Wild Beer Co.

“An incredibly unusual beer made in collaboration with three brewers

A collaboration of three brewers, three nationalities and six ideas brought together to learn, experiment and enjoy. Made by Kelly Ryan from Good George Beer in NZ, Brett Ellis (originally from the US) from the Wild Beer Co, and Mark Tranter from Burning Sky Brewery. This beer explores new ideas, techniques, ingredients, combinations and processes.

Using all three brewers combined knowledge and experiences to create an incredibly unusual and complex beer, this utilises every opportunity to take advantage of amazing ingredients and try alternative techniques.

Full body, gentle-sweet spiciness, a dry depth with oak undertones, and tropical fruit character, all finished off with tangy Hibiscus flowers – this is one shnoodlepippin beer!”

‘LOVE AMONG THE RUINS’ 7% Thornbridge Brewery

“A modern sour that has been brewed to compete with other modern sours coming from America. It is aged for over a year in Burgundy barrels with cherries added to give this beer a good rounded fruit and sour flavour profile.”

The Movember Foundation is the only global charity focused solely on men’s health, so this Movember We’re getting on board. We’re raising funds to help raise awareness for often forgotten men’s health issues.
As many of you know, we have quite the collection of bearded staff, but they’ve agreed to a ‘Grand Shaving’ and subsequently are beginning their epic journeys to grow the best moustache that ever there was!

You can show your support for their follicular prowess by donating either to the link below, or by dropping some coins in to the collection jar on the bar. All monies go to the guys at Movember, to tackle some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and poor mental health. Help us stop men dying too young.

Here’s the BEFORE picture…

honey-blonde-2

                                           HONEY BLONDE   3.5%

“Honey Blonde has a lovely soft depth of flavour, without being too overpowering. Typical of a blonde style beer, it is a pale malt forward beer, with a light body and a subtle honey aftertaste.”

The Honey is produced by local Dartmoor bees at ‘Cuddyford Apiaries’ in Ashburton. So local, that only a few small shops stock it!

Fantastic beers on tap this weekend…

Another naval name and another single hop beer, this time with the odd bod US hop Simcoe.

Somewhere in between a Porter and Dark Mild, ‘INK’ is a velvety black beer, loaded with Organic Cocoa, Coffee & Liquorice, lots of molasses and a bunch of dark malts.

‘SPANNER HAND’ 5.2% The Totnes Brewing Co.
“The beer that started it all and still a regular star on the TTBC barA very Devony Golden Ale; half Craft Beer, half Real Ale. Light flavour & a bit fruity!”

‘COMMON GROUNDS’ 5.4% Magic Rock Brewing

“A full bodied, decadently smooth coffee beer in collaboration with local roaster Dark Woods. 7 different malts combine with 7 different coffees added at 3 different points during the brew to create a sweet toffee, rich fruit and chocolate depth, accented with notes of vanilla, and hazelnut. A coffee beer designed with texture, aroma and deliciousness in mind, brewed to celebrate locality and a shared philosophy in creative quality.”

‘TOTEM PALE’ 2.2% To øl

A low alcohol, “Gluten Free APA Malts: Pilsner, Rye, Cara Red, Melanoidin, Cara Aroma, Flaked Oats Hops: Mosaic, Tettnanger Low Abv, Gluten free APA, younger sibling to our ‘Reparationsbajer GF’.

‘AMIGOS BRITANICOS 7.4% Sirencraft Brewing

“This is our interpretation of Amigos Britanicos. A beer originally brewed in Vermont to celebrate years of brewing friendships forged in the UK. Together with Beavertown & Casita Cerveceria, we devised an ale with lime, honey and fresh Santa Fe Grande chili peppers.”

‘MOLOVOV LITE’ Imperial IPA 8.5% Evil Twin Brewing

“Back in the days, only uncomplicated and tasteless beers existed and people started feeling bored before happy hour was up. Molotov Lite is a understated tour de force in rebellious hoppiness, it’s a subtle spark for action and yet by far one of the most anti-authoritative beers ever made by Evil Twin Brewing.”

‘FIRESTONE DBA’ 5% Firestone Walker

“DBA—a.k.a. Double Barrel Ale—is the trailblazing flagship beer that started it all for us back in 1996. Partially fermented in our patented Firestone Union oak-‐barrel brewing system, DBA quickly took the Central Coast by storm and set the pace for future beers to come. Today, DBA is regarded as a California classic, and stands as an iconic tribute to traditional cask-‐fermented English ales. Pale malts create a smooth middle with ribbons of caramel, English toffee and toasted oak..”
